I am often asked by my clients who are visiting Leeds about the best hotels in the city centre. I am personally a big fan of the Malmaison Hotel Leeds and I have been there many times and so far I have not been disappointed. As soon as you walk in, you are will feel instantly relaxed in the dimly-lit surroundings of the lobby and your feet will sink in the lush carpet. And I bet you will not be able to resist the appeal of the bar that is on the left of the lobby.
The bar is a very popular place to meet for after work drinks and it is becoming a favourite with the local residents as well. The selection of wine is absolutely divine, with a selection from all over the world, I am personally a big fan of sparkling rose and I am spoilt for choice at the Malmaison. The bar staff is always very friendly and professional and it is a pleasure to watch them make the cocktails. The great thing at the Malmaison is that they continuously bring out new cocktails that will titillate the palate. I tried the Blackforest Martini after the barman recommended it to me and I was hooked by its sweet chocolaty taste. If you are a beer lover, then do not be afraid, there are so many different imported beers that you will want to sample them all.
The Brasserie at the Malmaison is one of the best hotel restaurants around and you can rest assured that you will get simple yet good food. The price is very reasonable and they have good portion sizes, which is unusual for hotels. They have a really good Sunday brunch, a guaranteed cure for the worst hangover. Whether you are just after a quick sandwich or a 3 course dinner, you will be amazed by the quality of the food. If you are after a good steak, then you are in the right place, the Brasserie at the Malmaison serves one of the best steaks in Leeds. The meat is so succulent that it will melt in your mouth. Most of the produce tends to be locally sourced and you will definitely notice the difference in the food. Also, the cheese selection is to die for, and the Malmaison tend to run an offer for cheese and wine for about 20 pounds, which is a great bargain.
As for the rooms, well they are a haven of peace and tranquility, with big massive beds and a very elegant and modern decor. If you want a good night’s sleep, then you just have to close the thick curtains, adjust the lights and settle in the comfy bed and the city noise will seem to be miles away. The bathroom is brightly lit and very clean, with a very powerful shower and of course the gorgeous toiletries that come with it. It is definitely one of the best hotels in Leeds and its close proximity to the Leeds clubs and bars, as well as the train station makes it very convenient .
